Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a selection of the most common questions put to Wayne and his team - and their expert advice and answers:

Q
Won't the searing summer sun damage the window frames?
A
Before relocating to Lanzarote we brought a selection of products over with us and exposed them to desert-like temperatures...often in 50 degree centigrade heat. We then analysed the window and door frames in the UK - only the uPVC Tropical mix used by Kommerling, an internationally renowned German firm, was suitable. We only use Kommerling materials for our frames.

Q
So they don't warp and the colour doesn't fade?
A
No. Kommerling uPVC maintains its colour and doesn't mis-shape in any way that's why we have ultimate confidence in our products and can offer a 10 year manufacturer guarantee. Kommerling is lET and UEA accredited - the Spanish quality assurance standards.

Q
What about tropical storms and hurricanes?
A
We're proud to say all our clients' conservatories stood up to the deluge of wind and rain during the islands first hurricane, that's because we use the best materials and the best installation practises.

Q
What are the benefits of uPVC frames over other types?
A
PVCu is extremely durable. Unlike steel or aluminium frames, uPVC versions don't corrode or oxidise, and they won't rot like wooden frames. PVCu is virtually maintenance free - it won't need re-painting and with just a quick wipe clean every now and then they will maintain their 'straight-from-the-showroom' appearance.

Q
Why do I need double glazing in Lanzarote when it's warm all-year round?
A
To most people, double glazing simply keeps the heat in and so is only important in cold countries but that's only half the story. It also keeps the heat out and so helps to maintain a pleasant, cooler environment during hot summers. It's also important on Lanzarote for draught exclusion - it's known to be the windiest Canary Island - and to help block-out noise pollution which can be a big problem for apartments near pubs, clubs, airport or busy roads.

Q
Why should I spend more money on toughened glass?
A
Toughened glass is mandatory in the UK for any windows in "critical" areas, i.e. those more likely to break and thus cause injury, but it's not compulsory here. However, unlike some other companies, we only fit toughened glass as we consider it vital for homeowners' safety. In apartments, you're likely to have large glass panels and patio doors to make rooms light and airy and if there are children playing or nunning about these can be potentially fatal if they contain normal glass which splinters into dangerous shards. Toughened glass is five times stronger and, should it break, it does so in to small, less harmful pieces.

Q
Some other companies may be cheaper, so why should I use Milnrow Windows?
A
We don't offer the 'cheap and cheerful' option. Milnrow has over 40 years' industry experience and has a portfolio of satisfied clients - from small residences to large complexes - in the UK and on Lanzarote. Very few products can cope with the
Lanzarote climate and, if the firm you choose hasn't done their homework, you're likely to need replacement frames sooner rather than later - making the overall cost more expensive than fitting the genuine article initially. With Milnrow, you aren't just buying a superb, welltested product, but also decades of industry experience and a friendly, professional installation.
